Launch into STEM, Engineering & Rocketry – Guided by Industry Experts!

Have you ever dreamed of building rockets? Are you a curious, hands-on student under 18 who wants to learn science, engineering, and all things space from real rocket professionals? The South Australian Rocketry Club (SARC) is thrilled to launch our brand-new Mentoring Program — a gateway to the world of rocket science, fine motor skills, STEM, communication, and real-world engineering.

This is more than just learning. It’s inspiration, guidance, and community — all in one program.


What’s the SARC Junior Mentoring Program?

The program pairs young aspiring rocketeers (under 18) with experienced mentors from the rocketry and aerospace industry, including engineers, technicians, and launch specialists.

Over the course of the year, students will:

  • Build and launch real model rockets 🚀

  • Learn hands-on engineering, design, and safety skills

  • Develop STEM knowledgecritical thinking, and problem-solving

  • Improve fine motor skillsteamwork, and communication

  • Gain insights from mentors working in the space and tech industries

  • Be part of an exciting, growing community of makers and explorers!


Program Goals

The SARC Junior Mentoring Program is built on 3 core goals:

  1. Inspire curiosity in STEM and rocketry for the next generation

  2. Build practical, hands-on skills that last a lifetime

  3. Foster mentorship and connection between students and real-world professionals

Whether your child is already obsessed with rockets or just loves making things with their hands, this program will help them learn, grow, and launch into a future full of opportunity.


Safety First

We take the safety and well-being of our junior participants seriously — both in-person and online. We’re committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all.

Here's how we ensure this:

  • All mentors are required to hold valid Working with Children Checks

  • Clear mentor guidelines and training on appropriate engagement

  • Parental consent and supervision must be provided to complete the program and attend any face-to-face events

  • Recorded or supervised online sessions where applicable

  • Designated Youth Safety Officer for reporting and support

We're committed to maintaining the highest standards of child safety throughout the program.


What You’ll Need to Join

To take part in the SARC Junior Mentoring Program, junior rocketeers will need:

  • Tripoli Junior Membership (~$10 USD/year)

  • 💸 Preparedness to Purchase Materials & Motors
    While the mentoring program is led by volunteers, participants will need to be ready to purchase some of the resources and motors required to build and launch their rockets.
    Motor prices can vary depending on the size and type of rocket, but don’t worry — we’ll work with you to recommend the best options at different price points to suit your goals and budget.

These memberships help cover insurance, launch safety, and access to mentorship and events.

Note: This program will prioritise places for those aged between 12 and 18 years; however, we are super excited to be engaging those of all ages with this program. Please feel free to apply, and we will try to accommodate as many people as we can. We also allow you to sign up and indicate your interest in completing the program with others who are also signing up - this can be a great way to get the whole family involved!
