What launch rails are available?
SARC provides a variety of launch rails to accommodate rockets of different sizes and configurations. The tables below outline what's available for use:
Low/Medium Power Pads (Launch Rods) | ||
---|---|---|
Rod Diameter (mm) | Length (m) | Quantity |
3.175 (1/8") | 0.91 | 4 |
6.35 (1/4") | 1.5 | 2 |
High Power Pads (Launch Rails) | ||
---|---|---|
Rail Profile | Length (m) | Quantity |
1010 | 2 | 1 |
1010 | 3 | 1 |
For those new to high power rocketry, the Rail Profile refers to the size of the standard T-slot aluminum extrusion. This will determine which size rail guides need to be used. 1010 rails are typically suitable for most rockets up to around 5kg, whereas 1515 rails should be used for anything larger.
Although this is our current catalogue of rods/rails, we are always looking to provide more launch capabilities for our members. Please reach out to the Committee if you need something further than our current offering.
These launch rails ensure that members have a range of options for launching rockets, from smaller builds to larger, more advanced rockets requiring greater stability and height. We hope that providing this list will make it easier to choose your rail guides and simulate your off-rod flight characteristics. If you need help selecting the right rod/rail for your rocket, feel free to reach out to the Committee on launch day!
Hybrid Launch Equipment
Interested in launching with a hybrid motor? SARC has a Wi-Fi hybrid pad suitable for ranges out to 300m, with channels for fill and dump. It has a single firing channel and is connected to a 10lb nitrous bottle for launching up to J / K motors (Not suitable for GOx hypertech ignition systems). Please contact the Committee via the Contact Us page beforehand if you are interested in using this system.
Where can I find Flight Cards?
Download and print your flight card to bring to our launches in the attachment below. We will have some printed at each launch; however, it is always best to bring your own if you are looking to launch a lot or to be prepared for certification flights.
